Trends in PC and Gaming

03/14/2021

Gaming is an ever changing world, from improvements on consoles to the revival of forgotten games it's nearly impossible to keep up with it all. But there are some of these changes that I can't stand and some that I love wholeheartedly.

RGB CRISIS

Every year there seems to be more and more RGB added to different components, is there a point where RGB becomes too much? Absolutely.

I am in no way saying anything against using RGB when it's tasteful, but that is only a rare occurrence. Gamers have taken a liking to RGB and in turn we have started to see rigs that are like looking into the sun.

A good rule of thumb when looking at components with RGB is:

  1. Make sure you have control over your RGB. When it comes to cheaper parts your ability to control how the RGB acts decreases.

  2. Make sure that the RGB isn't overwhelming and compliments your rig instead of overpowering the already clean look of a pc.

SKATEBOARD GAME REVIVAL

It seems like yesterday that I was sitting in my pajamas on a Saturday morning playing Tony Hawk Pro-Skater trying to ollie and grind while eating Cheerios. Maybe because it was yesterday.

An amazing trend that we've seen over the last 6 months is the re-introduction of skateboarding games. With Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 1+2 in September we've seen a gradual trend of more of that style of games. This is one of my favorite trends that I've seen in years, with these games there is also the re-introduction of skating and punk culture into the mainstream. It seems like I can't walk to work without seeing a dozen kids trying to be the next Tony Hawk. If you want to hear me go more in-depth about my love of Tony Hawk check out my podcast episode where me and my homie talk about his new-ish game, Twitter life, and more.

THE OPENING OF WORLDS

Open be world games are nothing new, with one of the most well known and favorite being Breath of the Wild which came out in 2017 along with the release of the Nintendo Switch.

Since then we've seen an increase of similar games including Immortals: Fenys Rising as well as the recent announcement of Pokémon Legends: Arceus which is slated for release in early 2022. With the style of open world being a breath of fresh air from the traditional gaming experience it has become a favorite of gamers everywhere, it's clear that this is the future of gaming.
